A country of palaces and castles

Events in Salzburg with historic ambience

Your very own castle for every event! Salzburg County can meet this demand because many of the numerous historic buildings in the region have opened their doors for seminars, events and festivities. The umbrella association "Salzburg Castles and Palaces" alone offers four of the most beautiful event locations in the country. Here at austriaCongress we therefore suggest: Become your own "lord of the castle"!

Salzburg's most famous castle is of course the 900 year old Hohensalzburg Fortress and the city's landmark. It is Europe's largest and best preserved fortified castle. Spectacular views of the entire Mozart City await visitors to Hohensalzburg Fortress. Located in the centre of the Old Town, which stands under UNESCO protection, this is a unique setting for extraordinary product presentations, receptions, dinners and celebrations.

Choosing this mighty fortification for your presentation, seminar or dinner will ensure lasting memories amongst your guests. But it is not only the magnificent views of this historically fascinating city which create a unique atmosphere; the chambers, halls, bastions and courtyards form an unforgettable parameter for your event. Two renowned catering companies offer their impeccable services for events hosting from 10 to 300 persons. Gothic barrel vaults, cosy wood-panelled dining rooms or classically elegant restaurants ensure the perfect location for events of every kind. Up to 800 guests can be received in the charming courtyard and for smaller groups the various bastions provide the perfect setting for outdoor events.

For those wanting to stay closer to the ground but wanting to stage their event in the centre of Salzburg's Old Town, the stately rooms at the Residenz are also at your disposal. The prince archbishops really new how to celebrate in a grand style having magnificent rooms built which are available for events of all kinds today. Prince Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau brought Italian Baroque to the Mozart City and transformed Salzburg into a princely seat of power. The Residenz henceforth epitomised the sacred and worldly rulers and very little has changed since then. The state apartments are often used for state receptions, Salzburg Festival receptions and other illustrious occasions. The Residenz in Salzburg provides stately setting for events in 8 different rooms seating from 20 to 645 guests. The chambers and the extensive courtyard can be booked throughout the entire year for receptions, seminars, conferences, presentations, festivities, incentives etc.

Following the Salzach Valley, about 40 kilometres to the south of Salzburg, you will come to the town of Werfen where the 900 year old Hohenwerfen Fortress majestically overlooks the town. This impressive 11th century castle has not only been used as a location for numerous international films but also provides the perfect setting for celebrations and events. If you are looking for medieval flair and an event location steeped in history you need look no further! The catering is taken care of by the resident "castle inn", particularly popular are the gregarious knight's banquets and on warm summer evenings the beautiful castle courtyard provides room for around 500 guests. The castellan and his servants appear in historic costumes creating an authentic medieval ambience. The large palace hall truly embodies the flair of the Middle Ages and seats up to 200 people. Three further rooms can seat a total of up to 300 persons.

Far from the hustle and bustle of modern-day Austria and yet easily accessible Mauterndorf Castle is located in Salzburg's most southerly region, Lungau. The so called "toll castle" dates bck to the 13th Century and was sporadically used as a summer residence by Salzburg's prince archbishops. It perches on a rock outcrop just outside the market township of Mauterndorf and is a unique art-historical jewel surrounded by a fascinating mountain landscape. Today seminars and conferences catering for up to 250 participants can be held here. The guided tour through the castle makes a fitting start or finish to your event. Unparalleled is the Alpine panorama so typical of the Lungau region providing the perfect setting for outdoor events in particular.

austriaCongress is happy to take your enquiries regarding these castles and palaces along with additional selected event locations and is sure to find the perfect location for your event!
